I did not attend last week's Washington DC meeting (due to no message received), but here's my input:
The Pomona Band is pre-approved for automatic acceptance; therefore the $1,500 group deposit and application/registration form can be submitted during the fall semester allowing for discussion of fund-raising activities and increasing the participation by the students. It's recommended that the band be no smaller than 50 participants (alumni, cheerleaders, color guard, etc). Note, the $1,500 group deposit is not an additional amount, but part of the total cost of the Parade Tour and Trip. Actual airline airfares will not be available until mid-to-late July 2012 for the next twelve months of travel.
There are two options for the 3 nights / 4 days Parade Tour in Washington DC. The first option is based on round-trip airfares from Denver; the second option is based on self-arranged air transportation. Note, Frontier Airlines is a government contract carrier to Ronald Reagan National Airport; I'm such that Pomona High School can receive a very good group rate for this National event.
Regarding the Zia Festival (in Albuquerque), this competition is not part of the Colorado Bandmasters Association schedule. The travel time to Albuquerque is more than six hours and if the competition goes pass 6:00 pm that Saturday, the return-time back to Pomona High School will be Sunday morning. Note, the scheduled date for the 2012 Zia Festival is September 20, only five days after the 4A Metro competition. If the band needs to travel on that Friday (before the competition), that means two days of missing classes and two days off-work for some parents. Also, the Pomona Band is scheduled to play at the NAAC Stadium (for varsity football game) on the following Friday (September 26).
